Runner’s Insight : Rajinder Singh Bharaj

Runner’s Introduction – Basic Profile

Rajinder Singh Bharaj – I am working as TC in Indian Railways and staying in Baroda, Gujarat. During my schooling days, I was active in sports specifically in hockey and that helped to develop my strength & fitness. As a part of my job profile, it’s difficult to train at particular time due to shift duty, but i always manage to squeeze the time for the Run.

Q: How you have started running/cycling & your milestones so far?

I have started Running by participating in Vadodara Marathon when it was organized first time in Baroda.
8 Full Marathons (with Best timing of 3:41)
Several Half Marathons with few podiums at Solefest (1st Runner up & 2nd Runner up) Best timing of 1:38
4 times 12 hrs Ultra Runs with 2 Runners up positions. (max. distance of 96 km)
Cycling regularly since more than 5 years on basic gearless bike. (max. distance of 200 km)

Q: How you train for the Marathon/Race or Ultra Race ?

I usually train throughout the year with some cross training/cycling/strength training as part of the schedule. In a particular week, 3-4 days of running which covers intervals, hill training, long runs (in weekend) apart from cycling or strength training for few days and one day of a complete rest. For a marathon, you can do a long run of around 33k with easy pace for few times and that will help you gain a confidence in the race.

Q: What motivates you to do it regularly?

Running helps me to keep fit & also a great stress buster.

Q: Any advice for new runners ?

Start your Run slowly & gradually increased the distance as you start your journey. Join a group to stay motivated & be regular.

Q: your Motto/Tagline ?

Keep Running & Be Happy.
